The Road to Recovery

5/26/2015

It's been a while since I've blogged, because I have been quite busy. To be honest, I was unmotivated and demoralized by my IT Band issues in the Fall. In addition, I tore the repair in my right meniscus in late January, and I've been dealing with it ever since.

I finally had surgery last Wednesday to remove the torn part. Fortunately, it was minor surgery and the recovery has gone quite smooth. In fact, I started to put weight on my knee just hours after my surgery. Time will tell, but I hope to be back to trail running within less than six weeks.

For a non-athlete like me, I think motivation to stay healthy and active can come and go quite often. To combat this, I've been consuming a lot of adventure-based media lately to make me want to get back out there. So, I apologize for the short post but I've got to get back to YouTubing :). Oh, and I'll provide an update as soon as I am able to get active again.

Going Google: How to Leverage Cloud-Based computing within the outdoor education industry

5/23/2015

Thank you for your responses and interest in a presentation about Going Google.  I have submitted a session proposal through the AORE and I look forward to hearing about its approval.

Due to the large interest and complexity of the conversation, I'm offering a few, free webinars throughout the Summer on the topic.  The webinars are through Google Hangouts on Air (HOA) (essentially, LIVE YouTube).  You will not need a Google + account to view, but it does allow you to be more interactive with the presentation (i.e. ask questions / leave comments).

The first HOA on the series will be June 3 at 11:30am Eastern.  It is expected to last about an hour and a half.  HOAs are come and go events. If you cannot make that date and time, the conversation will be recorded and posted to YouTube for future watching.  However, real-time attendance increases the interactivity and helps to make the conversation relevant to your needs.

1st HOA Series Description:
Stop printing copies of your operations manual and start sharing it. Learn how to leverage cloud computing within your programs via Google Apps. Attendees of this presentation will learn an overview of Google Apps, see real-life examples of programs, and discuss concerns and questions relevant to their programs.

Bunk Bed Project

5/22/2015

Several months ago, we realized hosting Thanksgiving would mean more house guests in our humble abode. So we got to work on possible solutions for some little ones.

Before the bunk bed project took shape, we were considering building a nice looking farm table for hosting parties at our house.  My wife had pinned (Pinterest - where my backlog of other projects exists) the build plans from another great blogger Ana White. Since those plans were fairly easy to follow along, I searched through her site for a set of plans for bunk beds and stumbled upon these plans.

As you can see in the pictures below, I modified the final look in a few areas. Most notably, I made the frame bigger to give more spacing for a traditional twin versus a child's twin.
